What is Toastmasters?
Toastmasters International is a club designed to help you practice public speaking, improve your communication, and build leadership skills.
The first Toastmasters club was established on October 22, 1924, in Santa Ana, California, by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, who conceived and developed the idea of helping others to speak more effectively.
Tell me more about Foster City Toastmasters.
Every Toastmasters club has its own personality. Some are very formal and others are tailored to very seasoned or even professional speakers. We like to describe our Foster City club as casual, social, non-competitive, supportive, and very beginner-friendly. Although we conduct our meetings in a very structured Toastmasters fashion, we keep a no-pressure, laid-back feel to our meetings and inject humor at every available opportunity.
Foster City Toastmasters is the Foster City chapter of Toastmasters International, and a proud member of District 4. We create a safe learning environment where you can practice public speaking and leadership skills that you can take out to the field and succeed in any situation.
WHY SHOULD I JOIN?
Foster City Toastmasters is a warm and supportive environment to develop your communication skills. Improved communication skills have been known to boost confidence, increase visibility and recognition in the workplace. Leadership skills acquired through participation in Toastmasters will increase your management potential. As a Toastmaster you will acquire an increased ability to motivate and persuade, making you more effective personally and professionally.
HOW DO I JOIN?
Start off by sending us a message here to let us know you're interested in joining our club. After that, drop in at any of our meetings as a guest to get an idea of what Toastmasters is about, and speak to our club officers and fellow members. Once you're ready to join, fill out a new member form and give it to the club Treasurer.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Toastmasters' fees cover the cost of manuals and the rental of the room that we meet in. Club fees enable us to pay for the rental of the room where we meet. Both Toastmasters International and Foster City Toastmasters assess fees on a six month membership period beginning in March and September. A full six month membership is $80.00.
